Tracking of Progression for Adib

22nd May 2011
His attention span is increasing at a fast pace as he gains more interest in reading. It appears that the group environment with other children helps as they interact with one another about the book they are reading. Adib has shown a great amount of improvement this session and shows potential to achieve more.

Flashcards was introduced into today's lesson aiming to improve the child vocabulary. He was fairly receptive with the new idea, though and had a positive response. It kept the flow of the session and added variation to spice things up. Will continue to integrate into weekly sessions. He has shown that he is capable to listening and give intelligent responses to questions.

8th May 2011
We tried out a new method which i would like to call ROTATIONAL reading where we would read each page each. It is amazingly engaging and encouraging for both mentor and mentee. His attention span increase drastically and enjoyed the session much more, it was amazing how a minor change could have such a big impact.

24th April 2011
Was able to sit and read today though with little patience after a few minutes. After being distracted, he will come back to the book again. Attention was diverted several times but able to become focus again after much persuasion.  Seem to lack interest in the reading.
It has come to my attention that Adib attention spam is extremely short and he tend to be very reckless. Personally I feel that I have not made adequate preparation for the session and thus may have led him to feel bored. This session has taught me the importance of planning and preparation. With planning I think my sessions would become more engaging as we would be following a tight

17th April 2011
Adib got extremely distracted half way through the reading and then basically went on to play the other children. Soon they turned out to be wrestling and Adib and his brother were tied like a knot rolling on the ground and we could not separate them as we were afraid we would use too much force.

10th April 2011
Adib rejected most of the offers to read a more challenging books with less picture. Instead he ran around the library and was a handful. He was extremely uncoperative and difficult to handle. Later he told me he just came back from tuition and was too restless to read anylonger. Thus we went back to comics again.

3rd April 2011
We started out with conversations and found out he ad an interest in fishing as well as music. He has opened up for to me and now seems to be extremely hyper active. He was a joy to talk to. The first book he chose was a comic book, I decided that since it was the first official reading session I would like to observe his expression in reading.

27th March 2011
He appears to be a very intelligent child who has a lot of potential to work on. He seems to be an extremely hay child though it is observable that his attention span is short. He engages in conversations well though at times still quite shy.
